Two Moons On August 27, 2010:Double Moon 2010 Mars Hoax – According to a recent email that has begun to circulate all around the Internet, there will be “two moons” in the sky on August 28. The email states that Mars will grow to the size of a full moon, giving people the chance to get a much closer look at the planet than they ever have before.
However, this email is a hoax and has continued to circulate each August since it was formulated. The original email dates back to 2003, when Mars passed the closest the earth has ever seen it in 60,000 years.
Unfortunately, even then the claim that Mars would appear as big as the moon was false, which means that it is in no way going to happen this year. Although Mars was brighter in 2003, it still wasn’t as bright as Venus.

The email seems to re-circulate every time there is a Mars opposition, like there was in January of this year. It also comes around again every August, which seems to be a popular month for the Mars hoax to resurface.
If there ever was a chance of Mars appearing as large as the moon, reliable sources would be the first to report it.
