Texas Rangers Auction Underway, New Texas Rangers Auction Will Provide New Owner

August 5th, 2010
The Texas Rangers auction is underway down in Texas. This Texas Rangers auction has two main bidders, and new owners will emerge from the auction when Major League Baseball decides which of the two ownership groups to go with. The two bids are in place for the Texas Rangers auction, and now MLB will have to weigh which offer they think is the best. It won’t necessarily be the ownership group that offers the most money either, because Major League Baseball is not required to sell the team to the highest bidder. From that standpoint, it almost can’t be considered an auction, but rather a bidding process, where the bids as well as the ownership groups are being graded upon whether they would be good for baseball.

Between the two bids in the Texas Rangers auction, there is a clear leader between the two groups. The ownership group led by team president Nolan Ryan and sports attorney Chuck Greenberg currently has a cash bid on the table for 0 million, and the group led by Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban has a bid of 5 million in cash for the team. These are just the cash portions of the bids, which are expected to top 0 million in total each, but with the current state of the economy, the cash portions of these bids could be the most important facet of the bidding process. If the two bids are overall very close to each other, it is extremely likely that Major League Baseball will go with the ownership group offering the most flat cash in the deal.
