– The gaming community is rallying around Erin Wood, the widow of Relic Entertainment game designer Brian Wood, Yahoo Games reports. Brian Wood was driving the couple’s Subaru Outback, with pregnant Erin in the passenger seat, when an oncoming Chevy Blazer crossed over the center lane in front of them. Brian swerved the car so that his side absorbed much of the impact and was killed. Erin survived.

The response of the gaming community, on Facebook, Twitter, and many blogs, has been so strong that Erin Wood sent a thank-you letter to Kotaku. “Brian always told me about how close-knit and wonderful the video game community was, but I had no idea until this tragedy just how special a group it really is,” she wrote.

A memorial trust has been set up here. The game Wood was working on at the time of his death was Company of Heroes online.
