Professional interior creative designers are expertly been trained in the use of lighting functions to create breathtaking benefits. In this ?Understanding Gentle in Interior Design,? My spouse and i draw on my example of London?s home design community to explain this kind of fascinating subject. This specific third article references how to create habits using opaque materials.

The next way for an interior developer to create light-based patterns consists of opaque surfaces, which echo light back into an area. This pattern development process is more advanced and can be fine-tuned with regard to stunning interior design consequences. Light portrayals impact the way we understand a surface area and its texture. As an example, the ?standard? strategy often seen in Greater london residences simply entails casting a gentle participate in of light across the wall. The light styling brushes the fittings, resulting in the wall to appear also, flat and two-dimensional. A number of top London Internal Designers know that their potential customers crave more episode and stylistic nuance. In such cases, inserting lightwell fillings very close to your wall and fishing them downwards will be really striking. Using this method, interior design consultancies can convert the previous gentle say into an enunciated custom style, as the photons cut the surface and construct to form sturdy eye patterns, including top-level arcs as well as dramatic textures. Any sharper, more laser-like target will only make the routine more conspicuous ? re-creating a look that is well-liked in many trendy Greater london nightclubs.

The immediate counterpoint to this interior design strategy involves the use of close-offset uplighting. Using this approach, floor-level filaments cause the eyesight to move up straight columns of light that dance across the wall structure to form puddles involving dappled reflected light for the ceiling. Professional Greater london interior designers typically work alongside shade consultants to make sure that the end result has practical significance as well as aesthetic attraction. In particular, some modern London residences usually have uncomfortably low roofs. Interior designers may use this lighting method of draw attention to the actual vertical plane with the wall, thereby counterbalancing the actual hemmed-in feel of the lower ceiling.

Note: I do not have a favorite school. I enjoy seeing certain schools have success, but never do I cheer for a specific football program to succeed. I simply watch the games.

After watching the Michigan State Spartans host the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, there were some positives and negatives coming out from each sideline.

Continuing this regular segment, I go through the standout players, those that need work and tendencies of each team that must be praised or fixed.

That Was One of the Greatest Endings I’ve Ever Seen

Okay, the Appalachian State-Michigan game a few years ago was a little better. But this was a classic. First, what a gutsy call by Michigan State head coach Mark Dantonio – to risk losing the game by going for a thirty-yard pass on fourth down. And executed perfectly, with no Notre Dame defenders buying the fake, watching Charlie Gantt catch the lob with ease, then jog it into the Notre Dame marching band, was simply a classic. Did anyone see the looks on the faces of the marching band? Looked like all of them wanted to sacrifice their instruments on Gantt’s helmet.

Dane Crist Improved. A Lot.

Okay true, they passed the ball 55 times. But Notre Dame’s passing game was incredible. Crist passed for 369 yards and four touchdowns, while four Notre Dame receivers surpassed 70 yards receiving (and three had touchdown catches). Crist did throw one interception, but altogether, he looked extremely composed and calm in the pocket. He was willing to run the ball when needed to (six rushing attempts for eight yards), but was also willing to sacrifice a down and take a hit in the pocket – which is better than throwing the ball up and risking an interception, something too many college quarterbacks do.

Michigan State’s Rushing Game Thrived, Specifically When Notre Dame’s Defense Failed

You don’t rush for 203 yards unless you’re good. With Le’Veon Bell rushing for 114 and Edwin Baker rushing for 90, Michigan State clearly has the talent in the backfield. But Notre Dame’s inability to defend the rush sealed their fate from the get go. Though only two of Michigan State’s five touchdowns came from the ground, it was precisely the rushing game that allowed the Spartans to move the ball down the field drive after drive.

Michigan State’s Passing Wasn’t Too Shabby, Either

Passing for 274 yards? Yeah, that’s pretty good. Two receivers had more than 95 yards receiving, and three receivers caught touchdown passes. Nine players had at least one reception in the game as well. When you can spread the ball around the field like that, you increase your chances of winning a fair amount – and hey, Michigan State came out of this game on top.

Goodbye to Joe Torre. If nothing else in his tenure with the Dodgers, he was at least a class act. He probably got more out of his team the previous two seasons than anyone else could have. Unfortunately, this year’s edition of the Dodgers imploded for a variety of reasons.

Much of the fault can be placed squarely on the McCourts and their very public legal battle, but that’s another story. Old Joe can walk away from the game knowing that he had a great career as a player and as a manager.

In the history of the game, only a few men have been able to do that. His next stop: the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Charles Reilly

Manhattan BeachI’m guessing that in order for the Dodgers to sign Torre, they had to agree to Don Mattingly as his successor. Otherwise, how can you explain skipping Tim Wallach?

Doni Kandel

Los Angeles

::

The Dodgers’ hitting has been unbelievably weak, and their response is to make hitting coach Don Mattingly manager?

This amounts to rewarding mediocrity, and more of the Los Angeles Yankees. I’m sick of it.

Lee Harris

Burbank

::

I suppose the latest in what is becoming a long line of Dodgers blunders should come as no surprise. Though I am sure he is a nice fellow much like Torre, I am not sure Don Mattingly could manage a Starbucks, let alone the Dodgers ballclub. With ownership dumping all over each other in Superior Court and Colletti’s hands tied, the future is bleak.

Bud Chapman

Northridge

::

Just exactly how does naming Don “A Yankee Forever” Mattingly as the next Dodgers manager meet the McCourt promise to return to the rich tradition of this storied franchise? Yet another “misunderstanding” between the fans and the honorable McCourts.

Sherri Hoffman

New York

New York has Shubert Alley in the theater district, MacDougal Alley where Jackson Pollock lived in Greenwich Village, and even an occasional bowling alley.

But, who would have thought New York would be this year’s Tornado Alley?

Yes, tornadoes, as in the storm that picked up twelve year-old Dorothy Gale and transported her and some dog named Toto to a strange village. But, wait, that was rural Kansas, where tornadoes are supposed to happen. New Yorkers only expect to see them on Broadway sets while people are singing and dancing.

Wrong.

On Friday, New York was trying to clean up the mess after a wind storm roared through Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island, blowing off roofs, downing trees, knocking out power lines, and causing one fatality. Although it’s not clear yet whether it was an actual tornado, meteorologists found one part of the deadly storm with 109 mile per hour winds.

Earlier this summer, on July 25th, a tornado roared through the Bronx, causing damage and injuring people.

“It’s a myth that cities cannot be hit with tornadoes and damaging winds,” says Henry Margusity, senior meteorologist and severe weather expert at AccuWeather.com in State College, Pa. “So far this year, New York has been hit more than the Midwest cities.”

Mr. Margusity says tornadoes, which are complex weather events, are formed when a thunderstorm starts to rotate, then gets hit with wind sheer in the atmosphere and picks up energy from the jet stream. If the humidity is right and the temperature is right, the thunderstorm structure starts to spin all the way down to the surface.

All those elements converged Thursday when a storm system that had caused tornadoes in Kansas and Ohio accelerated into the east. It picked up humidity that was funneling up through New Jersey. At the same time, a cold front was racing towards New York, providing energy. Add in a jet stream that was ripping over New York in the upper atmosphere.

“All the ingredients came together all at once,” says Margusity who notes this year there have been severe wind storms and tornadoes from Washington to Boston.

Even the skyscrapers in a city won’t make any difference to a tornado once the system starts spinning, says Margusity. “There could be some disruption of the tornado going through the city, but bear in mind a tornado can be a mile wide and the thunderstorm can go up 40,000 feet into the atmosphere, so the buildings are small in magnitude compared to the weather,” he says. “The wind can be funneled around buildings and it becomes even faster.”

New York and other cities may have been hit with tornadoes in the past, but weathermen did not have the technology to see them, Margusity says. “Now with all this new radar technology, we’re seeing things that we couldn’t see 20 years ago.”

In fact, he expects the new “storm chasers” will be urbanites hanging out their apartment windows with cell phones taking photos of the tornadoes.

“We will watch it on the internet from the time it develops until the time it hits,” he says. “It will become a regular part of our day like car chases in California.”

Lady Gaga is making a statement with her weird fashion sense again. This time, at MTV’s Video Music Awards (of which she won several), Lady Gaga donned a full-fledged meat dress designed by Franc Fernandez, according to Entertainment Weekly. The dress didn’t end there.

PETA issued a statement saying “no matter how beautifully it is presented, flesh from a tortured animal is flesh from a tortured animal” in a release made on the MTV website. The following morning on the premiere of Ellen, the vegetarian gave Gaga a bikini made of kale as the controversial singer wore her meat dress again.

Madonna

The fashion statement made by Lady Gaga is sure to be compared to those of the pointy bra that Madonna used to wear. The Material Girl has made such a mark on fashion that Rihanna even wears a pointy thing up on stage, as pictured in INF Daily.

Madonna at least took her controversies to different levels as her career went forward. When the pointy dress wasn’t enough, it was provocative videos. Then it was having a love child. Now she’s a more toned-down mom who has adopted African children. Lady Gaga is just starting her tumult into intentionally raising eyebrows, and she is showing no signs of stopping.

Career Pathways

Lady Gaga’s career clearly is moving forward. Picking up the Video Music Awards in eight categories proves her marketability as a pop star. The difference between Lady Gaga and other controversial fashionistas in the music world is simple. Lady Gaga is the new Michael Jackson. She is an image, created by whoever it is behind the scenes, and her musical talent is only as good as her image presented to the public. The more controversial and risqué Lady Gaga is, the better for her album sales.

By NANCY BENAC (AP) – 2 hours ago

WASHINGTON — First came the outrage over plans for a mosque near ground zero. Now there’s anger over a Florida church’s plan to burn copies of the Quran.

Caught up in it all is President Barack Obama, who’d rather be talking about something — anything — else.

Yet there he was on TV Thursday morning, denouncing the church’s plans as a “stunt” that could “greatly endanger our young men and women who are in uniform” and incite suicide bombers.

“Look, this is a recruitment bonanza for Al Qaida,” Obama said in a taped interview on ABC. “You could have serious violence in places like Pakistan and Afghanistan.”

Two months before the fall elections, when Obama is trying to convince Americans that Democrats are squarely focused on the economy, the last thing he needs is another heated flap about Muslims, churning up lingering doubts about Obama’s religious sympathies and his resolve against terrorism. Slow to weigh in last month on the New York mosque question, Obama’s team moved quickly this week to speak out forcefully against plans by a small Florida church to torch copies of the Muslim holy book on Saturday, the ninth anniversary of the 9/11 terror attacks.

The administration’s denunciations had begun with Gen. David Petraeus, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Kabul, and been echoed throughout the top echelons of the government. Defense Secretary Robert Gates seconded Petraeus. Attorney General Eric Holder called it idiotic. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said it was disgraceful. Obama adviser David Axelrod went with un-American.

Obama himself held out hope the pastor would rethink his plans. “I hope he listens to those better angels and understands that this is a destructive act that he’s engaging in.”

The administration hoped to rein in the story by speaking out clearly and with one voice.

But it is a measure of the intense emotions attached to matters of religion and politics in the post 9/11 world that such a tiny tail — an independent church with 50 followers — could wag such a big dog.

It’s also a measure of how much Obama’s team wanted to change the subject.

Obama spent Wednesday in Cleveland promoting his economic plans and reaching out to those he acknowledges are “frustrated and angry and anxious about the future.” He made no reference to the Quran plan in his speech, but addressed the issue when asked about it during the interview taped in Ohio.

Pollster Andy Kohut, director of the Pew Research Center for the People & the Press, said large percentages of Americans believe Muslims are unfairly discriminated against in this country, so the administration probably hasn’t incurred harm from taking on the church. But Obama “didn’t do himself any good by weighing in on the mosque controversy” in New York, Kohut added.

For weeks, as Republicans including Sarah Palin and Newt Gingrich denounced plans for the mosque, the White House sidestepped the issue, insisting it was a local zoning matter. But once the mosque cleared its final regulatory hurdle last month, Obama spoke out clearly in its defense.

“This is America, and our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable,” he said.

From there, as Republicans fumed and most Democrats stayed silent, Obama’s message got more muddled.

“I will not comment on the wisdom of making a decision to put a mosque there,” he said.

Several Democrats, notably including Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada, had no such reservations. They said a mosque didn’t belong so close to the site of the toppled World Trade Center towers. Republicans went further, Gingrich accusing Obama of “pandering to radical Islam.”

House Republican leader John Boehner of Ohio on Wednesday tried to lump together the two issues — plans for the Quran-burning and the mosque — saying that “just because you have the right to do something in America does not mean it’s the right thing to do.”

Whatever the arguments on either issue, anything that keeps Obama from being heard on the economy isn’t helpful.

Nor is anything that stirs up questions about Obama’s religious leanings — he’s a Christian who had a Muslim father — and his priorities in fighting terrorism.

Obama has yet to clearly establish his religious identity with the public. A Pew poll released last month found that nearly one in five people incorrectly believe he’s Muslim, up from 11 percent in March 2009. Only a third of people think Obama is Christian, down from nearly half last year.

Obama was asked in the interview if he felt angry or helpless at having to deal with the fallout from the potential actions of the pastor of one tiny church.

“Well, it is frustrating,” he allowed, adding that the law didn’t offer much recourse.

And it was no doubt a frustration politically, as well.

With Reggie Bush reportedly set to have the 2005 Heisman Trophy stripped from him the question now moves to how this can be prevented from happening again. It’s easy to put the onus on the coaches and agents but that isn’t all of the problem.

The NCAA must learn from its mistakes and try to fix the black eye that is on college football right now.

Hold coaches responsible

Pete Carroll just happened to bolt for the NFL right before the NCAA laid the hammer down on USC. The program is now banned from postseason activity for two seasons and the head coach doesn’t pay a price at all. How about punishing the man who was the face of the program from 2001-2009.

Yes I know you can’t exactly punish somebody who is no longer coaching in the NCAA but what about a ban or at least a suspension if he decides to accept another job. John Calipari has left two basketball programs in shambles and hasn’t paid a price for it.

Right now, there’s too much temptation in front of coaches not to bend the rules considering that the punishment doesn’t fit the crime.

Allow a courting period for agents

This opinion may not be popular among many but it needs to be done. Instead of having agents and players going behind the schools backs there should be a period during the season when the two can meet.

Make sure these visits are supervised on campus so there can’t be any gifts given to players. It may seem a bit drastic but sometime drastic measures need to be taken to get the proper results.

Pay the players

Let’s be realistic. Would it be that big of a problem to give a monthly allowance to players?

I’m not suggesting that they should be given a boat load of money but 100-200 dollars should suffice. It wouldn’t solve the problem of agents flashing gifts in front of players faces. It would allow players a chance to turn down the free meal and buy it themselves though.

This will likely remain an issue that the NCAA will keep shoving aside.

Be consistent

If the reports are true and Bush loses the Heisman the NCAA is going to have to be consistent when investigating future athletes whose awards are under question. Bush more than likely isn’t the first Heisman winner to receive gifts and odds are he won’t be the last.

It’s the NCAA’s job to make sure that no Heisman candidate has committed any violations during the season they are up for the prestigious trophy.

No matter how you slice it this ended up being bad for Bush, the NCAA, and USC football. Everyone involved needs to learn from the mistakes that were committed and handle the fallout from all of this with class.

I’ve posted quite a few pictures from NASA’s Earth-observing Terra satellite over the past few months, some of them showing devastating natural disasters. But I never thought I’d post one that shows something so close to home.

This image was taken yesterday, September 6th, at about noon Mountain time:

That shows the plume of smoke from the Fourmile Canyon fire that I wrote about yesterday. The image is roughly 300 km (190 miles) across. The vertical dividing line is the actual edge of the Rocky Mountains; to the left (west) are the mountains, and to the right (east) is the start of the Great Plains stretching most of the way across the US.

The green smudge just to the south of the plume is Denver, and the smoke goes directly over Boulder… and my house. The fire is still going as I write this, but the winds have shifted and there is no longer a plume overhead. It smells like ash outside though, and the foothills — usually visible a few kilometers to the west from my house — are almost totally hidden.

I appreciate all the notes and tweets I’ve gotten, but we’re safe here. The fire is pretty far west of us, though we could see it poking over the first set of foothills last night. Creepy.

My brother-in-law has taken some amazing pictures of the fire from his house, located even farther to the east than where I am. This one shows the tops of the fires.

I’ll add that the sunset yesterday was desperately beautiful:

The smoke is made up of tiny particles of soot and ash. When blue light hits them, it scatters like a pinball off a bumper. So when you look to the Sun through the smoke, all the blue light has bounced off in a different direction, leaving only the redder light able to make its way straight to your eye. This happens on a lesser scale every night with particles in the air, making sunsets red. But this fire has really strengthened the effect, and the Sun went through myriad shades of red on its way down past the mountains last night. It was astonishing. Making it even more wrenching was knowing what was a causing it, and that there were people in the middle of all that smoke trying to put the fires out.

So far, there are still no reported injuries, though many homes have been destroyed and over 1000 people have been evacuated from the area.

My thanks to NASA_GoddardPix for the link to the Terra picture.
