South Korea Threatens “China’s Security” – Dallas Blog

July 31st, 2010

Attack Yellow.jpgThe South Korean military can’t even fight a second-rate naval battle against an ill-funded and ill-equipped North Korean Navy, as was proven when the North’s leader, Kim Jong-il, launched a torpedo attack against the South’s naval warship, the Cheonan, on March 26. Yet, Seoul is sending signals that a war against China is winnable.

The South Korean Navy was rebuked in recent months by the local media for fumbling the Cheonan investigation; naval officers taking a shopping spree in Hawaii when Seoul issued a “high alert” at all military bases; and a South Korean warship was wrecked at sea last weekend after thieves stole the boat for a ‘joyride’ or ‘party cruise.’ The alleged thieves turned out to be South Korean military officers and their family members.

Nevertheless, South Korea intends to conduct a military drill nearby the coastal waters of China and still accuses Beijing of violating “South Korea’s sovereignty.” A major daily in the South even contends that China “is in no position to criticize Seoul.”

Has President Le Myung-bak of South Korea lost control of rogue generals and admirals? Does he actually believe his troops, notorious for ‘lax discipline,’ can defeat the Chinese Army? Or is President Lee just hiding gross deficiencies with the ROK Armed Forces by feigning toughness?

The Dong-A-Ilbo reports that, “the Global Times, a sister daily of the official newspaper of the Chinese Communist Party People’s Daily, said in a front-page article Wednesday, ‘South Korea has the illusion of pressuring China through a joint military drill with the U.S. in the Yellow Sea.’ Adding,’Delaying the drill after a U.N. Security Council statement indicates that U.S. aircraft carriers can participate in the exercise should China disagree on council sanctions against North Korea.’ The Times then said, ‘South Korea openly seeks to pressure China.’ In a Monday editorial, the daily said this is a definite challenge to China’s security.”

Should Seoul be foolish enough to actually launch a war against China, Beijing may not face much of a challenge. As reported by the Dallas Blog a few days ago, male uniformed South Korean soldiers were visually sighted carrying women’s purses on the streets of Seoul just 24 hours after the Cheonan ship sinking.

The upcoming joint naval exercise is a show of strength against North Korea, not China. In fact, the referenced article in Dong-A-Ilbo makes it clear that China is in the wrong here, not South Korea.

It’s as clear as noonday that this editorial (including the babble at the end about soldiers with women’s purses) reads like poorly written propaganda piece from the North Korean mouthpiece, KCNA.

What the heck is this article saying? It doesn’t even make any sense.

Given how little Western media said how “democratic” South Korea is arresting it’s own people that disagrees with its findings, censoring as much it can public forums inside its own country that contradicts its finding, it raises much doubt what really happen and how desperate really is its government (and some of the West that adamantly agrees with it)
