Thursday night’s (July 29) episode of “So You Think You Can Dance” was derailed a bit by the special guests, as the cast of “Step Up 3D” delivered a pretty killer performance and certainly legitimized that film as a can’t miss. But it was also robbed of a bit of drama when they announced the bottom three. Everybody in the universe seemed to know that the time had come for Jose, who has consistently delivered underwhelming performances as the weeks have progressed (it sometimes appeared as though he was actually devolving as a dancer). And though Lauren might not have been entirely on point during Wednesday night’s performance show (her Broadway routine was not as great as everybody seemed to think), you knew she wasn’t going to be sent home simply because she’s the only woman left standing. Plus, she’s a much better dancer than Billy, and Lauren’s survival dance was also far superior.
So in the end, Jose and Billy both waved goodbye to “So You Think You Can Dance.” Outside of the “Step Up 3D” performance, the rest of the episode seemed a little bit beside the point. Allison Iraheta was good (as always), but she didn’t do anything we haven’t seen on a reality TV show before. As for the other performance, we still have no idea what Christian TV is, nor do we really care to learn.
With two eliminations this week, that leaves AdeChike, Lauren, Robert and Kent competing for the top prize on “So You Think You Can Dance.” The best narrative would involve Lauren coming back to defeat all the men surrounding here, but it seems like the competition will come down to AdeChike (who has been consistently excellent) and Robert (who seems to be surging at exactly the right time).
