The Michigan football schedule gets much tougher later, meaning wins now are important. The Michigan football schedule turned out the third victory of the season for the Wolverines on Saturday, but the defensive showing in the fourth quarter was far from impressive. After beating Connecticut and Notre Dame in the first two weeks of the 2010 college football schedule, Michigan hosted the University of Massachusetts on Saturday, and despite a late scare, came away with a nice victory. Now Michigan football is 3-0 in 2010, and is basically just three wins from a guaranteed bowl invite.
This Michigan football team has far greater things on their minds than a simply bowl invite though, and they would love to get back into the BCS picture by the end of the 2010 college football season. They have a lot of work in front of them with games against No. 9 Iowa, No. 22 Penn State, No. 11 Wisconsin, and then a season closing game against No. 2 Ohio State. It makes all the other games even more important as victories, and again the Michigan football team held their own on Saturday afternoon against a tough opponent. Don’t discount UMass, because they were also 2-0 coming into the game.
To pull out the win on Saturday, Michigan needed another great performance by sophomore quarterback Denard Robinson. In last week’s game, Robinson rushed for 258 yards and passed for another 244 yards in one of the most impressive outputs from a quarterback we have seen in quite some time. Compared to those stats, his final line against Massachusetts was pretty pedestrian, but it also showed that Michigan has more weapons than just Robinson. Robinson went 10 for 14 in passing for 241 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 104 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries. This could keep Robinson at the tip of the 2010 Heisman Trophy discussion.
