Final Georgia Tech 41, South Carolina State 10 – The Times and Democrat

September 4th, 2010

Joshua Nesbitt lived up to his Heisman Trophy credentials against South Carolina State, rushing for two of his three touchdowns on 4th and 3 conversions enroute to amassing 130 yards on the ground against the Bulldogs’ defense. His efforts, along with a rash of mistakes, proved to be S.C. State’s undoing in a 41-10 loss before 51,668 fans which included a strong contingent of Bulldog fans who filled portions of the lower stands near the visiting end zone and upper deck.

“I think I did alright, but I know I can do better,” Nesbitt said. “I just have to go out there and make sure that everyone is doing their job and doing the right thing and it will all fall into place.”

Despite falling to 0-6 lifetime against Football Bowl Subdivision foes, S.C. State took away some positives against Georgia Tech. Nesbitt’s 130 rushing yards was matched by Bulldog sophomore running back Asheton Jordan. The Citadel transfer rushed for 129 yards on 18 carries, including a 55-yard run which set up the Bulldogs’ lone touchdown on a 1-yard run by quarterback Malcolm Long.

“It makes me think that we might be able to rush the football against most of our schedule,” S.C. State head football coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough said. “If you can rush the football 129 yards against Georgia Tech, then there might be another team or two you can rush the ball against in our league.”

As a team, S.C. State (0-1) was outgained 374-272 by the Yellow Jackets (1-0). Quarterback Malcolm Long completed just 11-25 passes for 94 yards, but his numbers dwarfed the 2-8 passing by Nesbitt and back Tevin Washington.
