Potentially millions of Chase retail and small-business customers have been frozen out of their online bank accounts since Monday evening because of a technical glitch, officials of the bank said Tuesday afternoon.
A.T.M. and telephone bank services continue to work normally, and customers can still go to Chase branches to gain access their accounts, they said. They said that they did not know when customers would be able to regain online access to their accounts, adding that they were moving quickly to restore service.
A message posted on Chase.com says: “Our website is temporarily unavailable. We’re working quickly to restore access. Please log on later.”
Chase, the retail banking arm of JPMorgan Chase, is the nation’s second-largest bank. More than 16.5 million of its customers have online accounts.
The company’s chairman and chief executive, Jamie Dimon, apologized for the technical problems at a banking conference in New York earlier in the afternoon.
