Brett Favre began his 20th NFL season but was unable to inspire the Minnesota Vikings to a revenge win over New Orleans in the 2010 opener.

Favre, 41 next month, was inspired to put off his retirement after a dramatic play-off loss to the Saints in January.

But the defending Super Bowl champions ran out 14-9 winners, even though Favre threw for 171 yards and a touchdown.

“The timing was little bit off but I have to give credit to the Saints,” said the veteran quarterback.

The rest of the NFL’s 30 teams begin the season this weekend, with the Indianapolis Colts – who lost to New Orleans in last February’s Super Bowl – taking on the Houston Texans on Sunday.
