Barefoot Bandit captured two years later: Colton Harris Moore photos, video, slideshow)

The teenage fugitive who eluded authorities for two years has been captured. Nineteen-year-old Colton Harris Moore, also known as the Barefoot Bandit, was captured today in the Bahamas.

His crimes mirrored those of the Leonardo Dicaprio/Tom Hanks film ‘Catch Me If You Can’ but whether or not the FBI will have a job one day for this fugitive remains to be seen. He does have his share of fans, however. His Facebook page has over 65,000 fans.  One poster writes on Colton Harris Moore’s Facebook fan page, “I think its amazing he flew a plane after reading the manual.”  Others are calling for his freedom.  For now, though, the Barefoot Bandit is going to face the legal consequences for his crimes.

Ellison Greenslade, Police Commissioner of the Bahamas Police spoke during a press conference and said, “Acting on information received from members of the public, the police responded to a sighting of the suspect in Harbor Island. The suspect in an effort to evade capture engaged local police in a high-speed chase by boat in waters leading to Royal Key in the Eleuthera area.

After a brief chase, the suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police officers were able to confiscate a firearm and other items of evidential value.”

Eyewitnesses described it as a scene from a James Bond movie. With the excitement, the drama, the stealing boats and airplanes in his bare feet, we’re certain that there’s bound to be a Hollywood picture depicting the Barefoot Bandit. That’s not to say that things weren’t tense during the capture. Police report that at one point, Colton Harris Moore put a gun to his head and threatened suicide. Authorities took the gun away from him without incident.
