Astros acquired OF Anthony Gose, LHP J.A. Happ and INF Jonathan Villar from the Phillies for RHP Roy Oswalt and cash considerations.
He won’t last long in Houston, as Gose has reportedly been flipped to the Blue Jays in exchange for prospect first baseman Brett Wallace. The 19-year-old outfielder saw his stock go through the roof over the winter after he led the minor leagues with 76 steals in 96 attempts with Single-A Lakewood last season. Naturally, he draws raves from scouts because of his plus speed, but he is also highly-regarded for his arm and defense in center field. Still, he has a lot of work to do at the plate, compiling a meager .263/.323/.367 batting line and 225 strikeouts over 967 at-bats. He doesn’t exactly look like your prototypical leadoff man at the moment, especially considering that he was just 36-for-63 (57 percent) in stolen base attempts with High-A Clearwater this season.
